The U.S. Department of Transportation Volpe Center is conducting market research on the availability of refurbished or used 50-foot railway boxcars. The boxcars must carry at least 70 tons, meet Association of American Railroads standards, and be used to transport ammunition and explosives. Delivery is to a U.S. Army rail base in the continental United States.
Who can win it
- Manufacturing shop must hold AAR certification for freight car building
- Refurbishment must be performed in an AAR qualified rail shop
- Vendor performing boxcar construction must hold AAR M-1003 and S-2034 certifications
