NASA offers patent licence rights, exclusive or non-exclusive and possibly limited to specific fields of use, to commercialise, manufacture and market the Capacitive Impedance Water Ice Sensor (CIWIS). The sensor detects ice, water and other material on aircraft surfaces using a capacitive sensor of metal traces on a printed circuit board with a dielectric covering, and is rated at Technology Readiness Level 5. NASA provides no funding with these licences, and no follow-on procurement is expected.
