A psychiatrist will provide specialist psychiatric treatment and care for prisoners with mental disorders in a separate 25-place unit at Weiterstadt prison, currently holding 15 prisoners. Services include diagnosis, medication, ward rounds and supervision of nursing staff, for 20 hours per week, rising to 30 hours if places are expanded, over three years from 2027 with an option to extend.
